Moth Survey 1976-2016
Old Lady Moth
Wingspan f 60mm
Common in summer. Flies to light and is the most common large moth encountered indoors, where it shelters close to windows often behind hanging drapes and curtains.
One generation a year. Large drab caterpillar developes from eggs laid on a variety of common trees during July and August
Habit: flies in a flutterfy butterfly like flight - found frequently indoors.
Larval foodplant: blackthorn, hawthorn, birch
